Entry #10 - What did I Learn in this Course?
What
did I Learn in this Course?
Composition I has been one of my favorite
courses at university. Despite writing at an advanced level and taking great
care of my grammar for years, I realized I had a lot to learn. Text is not just
a form of expression; rather, it is an artful representation of our thoughts,
and as art, it is crucial to master the techniques that allow us to impress our
readers. In this course, I learned the importance of outlining and adequate
essay structure.
One of my biggest challenges before taking
Composition I was logically organizing my ideas. However, once I learned about
outlining and applied it to both paragraphs and whole essays, my writing
improved drastically. This technique has been of immense help, as using it has
allowed me to write more coherent texts where my points are communicated
appropriately. Before taking this course, my essays contained a lot of
information that could have been trimmed down had I known how to outline. Now,
I write more confidently thanks to this technique.
Another thing I learned in Composition I is the
proper essay structure. Along with outlining, a well-structured essay not only
looks good but is also enjoyable to read and easy to remember. Setting a
specific number of paragraphs based on my main ideas helps make my texts
clearer and more concise. My writing has improved more than ever since I
learned how to structure an essay adequately.
Overall, Composition I was a fantastic
experience that I will remember for years to come. Although I had an excellent
writing style before taking this course, I learned to refine my technique, and
I will forever be grateful for participating in Mr. Zeledón’s class. Now, as
the end of the quarter approaches, I can only hope Composition II brings even
more enlightenment to my writing.
